The Windsor and Maidenhead Conservatives have criticised the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) for refusing an offer that would have seen the flag returned to Osgood Park at no cost to taxpayers.
Several years ago, the flag at Osgood Park was removed after it became damaged and tattered. Since then, the flagpole has remained empty despite calls from local residents to see it restored.
Former Conservative Councillor and resident Ed Wilson has offered to personally fund the purchase of a replacement flag, its installation and all future maintenance, ensuring there would be no financial burden on the Council. Despite this, RBWM has declined the offer, leaving the flagpole standing unused.
The Conservatives believe the flag should once again fly over Osgood Park as a symbol of local pride and community identity. They have also expressed disappointment that Reform representatives have remained silent on the issue.
Ed Wilson said:
"I was pleased to offer to cover the full cost of replacing the flag, installing it and maintaining it in the future, meaning there would be no cost whatsoever to local taxpayers. I am disappointed that the Council has chosen not to accept this offer. The flagpole was put there to fly a flag, and I know many local residents would welcome seeing it restored. This is a simple opportunity to show pride in our community, and I hope the Council will reconsider its decision."
There is now around 1300 signatures on the petition, and still RBWM refuses to acknowledge this issue. Residents are feeling neglected and the independents fail to unify. Only the Conservatives have a unifying position on the flag; let it wave!
